StartSomeGood News

In the first week of 2012, we launched 5 new campaigns and one of them already reached its tipping point:
- The Red Eye Gravy Theatre Company not only launched its campaign, but it also reached the tipping point in under a week! Through the classic play Romeo and Juliet, The Red Eye Gravy Theatre Company is taking on homophobia by presenting the production with Romeo and Juliet as a gay couple. The campaign funds will help to Launch Romeo and Juliet to Fight Homophobia and all the proceeds will go to The Trevor Project. In just under a week after launch, the campaign already reached its $500 tipping point and has plenty of time to reach the total funding goal.
- The Yonso Project is helping alleviate poverty in rural Ghana through economic and educational development. The Yonso Project’s campaign will help fund a mentoring program for rural school children in Ghana. The program will take them camping for three days and educate them on important issues that children deal with when they are developing and growing into young adults.
- Mission Gas is a non-profit gas station that acquires abandoned gas stations and renovates and reopens them. It then hires unemployed people through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and the Agency for Workforce Innovation. Proceeds are then donated to local charities. This campaign will help launch Mission Gas as an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
- 2gether International is breaking down social barriers that exist between people with disabilities and those without disabilities. Studies show that people with disabilities are more constrained by social barriers rather than the disability itself. 2gether International is using this campaign to officially launch as a 501(c)3 non-profit and fund its first year of operation.
- The New Orleans Maritime Heritage Foundation seeks to connect citizens and visitors with New Orleans’ rich maritime history. The goal is to preserve the culture of New Orleans while strengthening and engaging the community by training people to sail tall ships. Sail the New Orleans Maritime Heritage Foundation will help the foundation incorporate as a 501(c)3 non-profit and pay for its membership to Tall Ships America.
We also saw one campaign finish successfully:
- Thanks to the support of 55 backers, dane101 passed its tipping point goal and raised a total of $5,001 for its campaign, Be the Media With dane101. The campaign funds will help dane101 hire freelance writers to provide in-depth coverage of the political news in Wisconsin in 2012.
