2gether for a Nonprofit

People with disabilities make up the largest minority worldwide. The Disability Community comprises an estimated 650 million people worldwide with various mental, physical, or sensory impairments. Despite the fact that they make up a sizeable percentage of the people on this earth, the Disability Community faces many challenges and has many barriers to conquer. The biggest obstacle is to overcome the social constraints that exist between people with disabilities and those without.

In the incredibly upbeat video above, we meet Diego, an amazing young man who was born with a disability and who happens to be the President and Founder of 2gether-International. Diego shows the true meaning of overcoming disability in the face of adversity. He has founded 2gether-International, a (soon-to-be, with your help) nonprofit that aims to break down the social barriers that exist and embrace diversity.

Diego proves there is a reason you cannot spell disability without ability – which he has in abundance. He wants the rest of the world to see what he sees. We must change the mindset, so that having a disability is embraced, rather than shunned. As individuals, disabled or otherwise, we might have limitations but we do not have limits. 2gether-International has some very exciting plans for the future but cannot achieve them without becoming a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit.

It is expensive to become a certified non-profit. This is why Diego launched his campaign, 2gether for a Nonprofit. So far, Diego and his team have raised $830 of the campaign’s $2,000 tipping point goal. 2gether-International is hoping to raise enough money to fund its first year as a non-profit, including a school event, guest speaker, and an end of year conference. For 2together-International, the conference would be a true mark and celebration of success, including an invitation to Mark Perriello CEO of the American Association of people with disabilities in DC. The campaign page gives more details and provides you with the chance to share with your social networks and donate to ensure that this campaign has no limits.

Joe Donnellan

I have a BA in Public and Social Policy at NUI, Galway and have very recently relocated to Boston to live the American dream and to dive head first into the global community. I am still finding my feet here but I am trying to gain as much valuable experience as I possibly can. I enjoy the game that is politics and I also feel quite strongly about the subjects of genocide, human rights abuses and social exclusion. I love all manner of sport but have become more of an arm chair fan in recent year. My personal philosophy is that I want to leave everything in a better place than it was when I came in contact with it. @joeydonn
