This Week in Social Entrepreneurship

  • Whether you’re a veteran social entrepreneur or just starting off on your journey, a healthy dose of inspiration is key to your success. This week, Inc. published 5 Great Companies That Make Money & Do Good. This is a list of some of the most creative and game changing companies selling products for a purpose. Included are Oliberté, a footwear company that creates fair-wage jobs in Ethiopia, Falling Whistles, a company that sells whistle necklaces to encourage people to become “whistle blowers for peace” in the Congo to raise awareness about the deadly war that the region currently faces, Jack’s Soap, which donates a bar of soap for a child in need each time one is sold (the soap is also sustainable and cruelty-free), Indosole, a for-profit shoe company that makes sandals made from repurposed Indonesian motorcycle tires, preventing them from ending up in landfills, and Light Gives Heat, a non-profit organization that sells women’s fashion and provides jobs to women in Uganda, helping them break the cycle of poverty in their families. Inspired? We thought so, now go on helping change the world!
  • Recently, Vibewire ran a successful campaign on StartSomeGood, raising $3,270 to support three young social entrepreneurs.
