Herban Crafts addresses unemployment by offering job training to unemployed women living in transitional housing so that they can learn to be economically independent. The goal is to find permanent jobs for these women within their local community. These women will prepare and package natural and organic herbal bath and body kits and will participate in training sessions where they will learn resume writing, interview techniques, and teamwork. The campaign, Crafting a Better World, is raising funds to cover the costs of producing the first batch of kits along with employee salaries.
The Tabula Project is turning tablets into powerful classroom tools teachers can implement in order to improve the educational process for their students. The goal is to create a platform to make tablets better tools for classrooms—these tools will help students and teachers get more out of their apps and ebooks. This campaign will help officially launch The Tabula Project. Step one is to get the software running on a group of tablets in classrooms this Fall. The $75,000 tipping point goal will allow for development of alpha software for one tablet platform and a round of field testing for Fall 2012.
Measure of Hope is developing an online Child Information Program (p-ChIP) that will give parents a resource to store and retrieve data securely that can be used if and when their children ever go missing. In these situations, time is of the essence, so an efficient system like this can mean the difference between finding a missing child or not. This system essentially provides them with a “Family Safety Plan” in times of emergency. Measure of Hope will use the campaign funds to officially file as a 501(c)(3) organization in Texas.
The Inner Harbor Project will be a youth camp for Summer 2012 to teach urban youth how to use qualitative research as a tool for social change in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The goal of this project is to hopefully stir dialogue between youth and policy makers about constructive ways to decrease crime in the Inner Harbor and build it into a more inclusive space. To Launch the Inner Harbor Project, this campaign needs to raise at least $2,500 to hold the event and fund individual student projects.
